Best performance is on rich, free-draining clay-loam, loam and loamy-sand soils. The organic matter has to be added like garden manure to the soil for the promotion of growth.

Watering

It does not prefer consistently moist soil. Water it only when it is dry. In the case of this plant, less watering is fine. Over watering causes root rot and invites aphides.
